WHO report says processed meats raise colon cancer risk
World Health Organization panel says there is sufficient scientific evidence to conclude that processed meats such as ham and bacon can increase the risk of colon cancer. The report also said scientific data indicate eating red meat, including pork and lamb, probably increases the risk as well. Dr. John Ioannidis of Stanford University said the risk from eating red meat is small, and it would be "an exaggeration" to say people should not eat any processed or red meat.
